ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN AND RETAIL

With a possible economic slowdown, where will retail be hit more--stores or e-commerce? And if the former, what will online laggards do? Fall further behind? Lament not transforming their Supply Chains?

STANDING STILL IS NOT A SUPPLY CHAIN OPTION

Manufacturers & retailers, creating the Supply Chain that is now challenged from/by omnichannel did not happen overnight. SCM is now strategic. Transforming SCM to what is now required is not a quick fix. Doing nothing is not an option. Stand still an fall further behind.

MANUFACTURERS AND RETAILERS THAT DEFINE SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT BY ITS LOGISTICS

Manufacturers and retailers that define Supply Chain Management by its logistics elements and costs do not understand SCM, its length, complexity, its strategic role, and real metrics of the Perfect Order and Inventory Velocity. Their competitive loss.

INVENTORY VELOCITY VS PRICE INCREASES

Manufacturers and retailers, moving inventory faster through the end-to-end Supply Chain improves ROI and can negate all or some of the impact of price increases.

UPSTREAM SUPPLY CHAIN AND EXCESS INVENTORY

Much of the excess inventory and working capital carried by manufacturers & retailers is in the Upstream Supply Chain. That is where the longest time is in the end-to-end Supply Chain for sourcing and logistics. Longer time is more inventory buffer. Yet attention is on the downstream part.

MID-SIZE MANUFACTURERS, RETAILERS, AND LOGISTICS TECHNOLOGY

Mid-size manufacturers and retailers are challenged to invest capital in robotics and other technology to reduce logistics costs with e-commerce. Hope is not lost. Assess your current Supply Chain and make needed other improvements for end-to-end velocity.

E-COMMERCE AND VELOCITY

E-commerce, for those that are Supply Chain Velocity challenged, has increased problems with more inventory, lower turns, and its Yield Maximization. The answer is end-to-end SCM velocity. It reduces the lean waste of excess inventory and time.

HOLIDAY SALES AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Holiday sales numbers are starting to come in for retailers.  They seem to separate those with robust e-commerce driven by the New Supply Chain and those with online sites pretending as to delivering Customer Expectations.  Surprising?

3PLs AND LOGISTICS PROVIDERS VS SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

An issue with logistics providers and 3PLs is their not understanding Supply Chain Management and how their logistics service fits into their customers’ Supply Chains.  This problem is exacerbated with the new Supply Chain and its end-to-end velocity.

2019, MANUFACTURERS, RETAILERS, AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

How much of 2019 will be about manufacturers and retailers pretending they have dynamic omnichannel driven by the new Supply Chain that drives Order Velocity and Inventory Velocity?  But sales growth will say differently.

LOGISTICS IN 2019

How much of 2019 will be about the same
hashtag
logistics as 2018?  Second verse same as the first?!  Is there a game changer or more of the commoditization?

MANUFACTURERS--INVENTORY RICH AND ORDER FILL POOR

Many manufacturers are Inventory Rich yet struggle to fulfill orders. Inventory as an asset is a misdirection when viewed from lean. Inventory Velocity is the need as part of Supply Chain transformation.

AMAZON VS UPS AND FEDEX

When it comes to UPS & FedEx, I am not looking at Amazon selling its service to other shippers. I think they first shift more of their own volume to their planes. That’s cargo not available for UPS and FedEx. I builds their Supply Chain Velocity that drives their Order Delivery Velocity which adds to their competitive advantage. Which means less cargo for FedEx & UPS. Eventually they sell their services on the market based on proven velocity. Amazon poses a challenge to logistics outsourcing & commercial transport across modes. IMHO

3PL OR 3PSCM?

If Supply Chain Velocity is required for Inventory Velocity to drive Order Delivery Velocity, why is the discussion about logistics and 3PLs?  It should be on SCM and 3PSCM and SCMaaS.  Does forcing velocity from an outdated Supply Chain make sense?  Transform.

AMAZON AND 3PSCM, NOT 3PL

As it has done with transforming Supply Chain Management, is Amazon transforming the 3PL model and building its own 3PSCM Supply Chain service to drive faster Order Delivery Velocity?

MANUFACTURERS, SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT, PERFECT ORDER

Manufacturers that fixate on Supply Chain logistics costs miss the Customer Service performance aspect of SCM, especially for the Perfect Order. And it shows.
